Landscape Design.

Landscape design is my creative process. I am inspired by the existing landscape, your desires, supporting habitat and my current plant love affairs. I work with soil, light, exposure and water conditions to optimize flourishing experiences in the outside environment.

I love playing with textures and the senses. I love working with and for birds, bees, butterflies, spiders, worms, mycelium, and all the others critters, crawlers and microorganisms. Considering access needs is fundamental to my work.

Planting native plants is important and the best way to support wildlife. Native plants are usually the lowest maintenance and if selected appropriately the most dependable, hardy and drought tolerant. My design work centers on native plants, alongside edible plants for humans, changing climate-adaptive plants, and the occasional fabulous, unique or rare specimen.

I can envision but do not install patios, retaining walls, water features and irrigation. Generally I can work with customers and specialists for those things. I do not do lawns or hedges. I am available to discuss green roofs, rain water catchment and grey-water systems but do not currently take on these projects.

All of my work is principled in impact and interdependence. I am passionate about stormwater mitigation to reduce harmful pollutants in waterways. Rain gardens, cisterns and green roofs are exciting developments in this field but shouldn’t overshadow the importance of trees.
